Then we have loftier concepts like selfless love and universal love that tend to work better when directed to God, imaginary or otherwise, or into other dimensions — and result in significant letdowns and disappointments, when directed towards fundamentally broken human beings.

Well, by the looks of it, the basic principle is: We have two pieces of a cosmic puzzle with just enough similarity and complementarity to enable a certain magnetic attraction. Of varying grades of compatibility, but in principle, love follows.

There's bonding on the plane of our instincts, lust, propagation of our species. Then we have emotional coupling, the exchange agreement for mutual feel-goods. The more cognitively oriented like to bond over parallel thought formations, frameworks of thinking. And of course, we have the like meets like, matching identities, where the roles we have assumed are parallel, and therefore we find synergy and a bond between us.

In so many combinations of the different planes of our existence and awareness, all of those in perpetual change. How can love last, when its components are ever transforming? Should we just freeze ourselves and the flux of time to make true love eternal? And plenty more questions are brewing in the basin where all of that came from.
